Industrial Visit to DTDC Express Ltd (SCS) Bhiwandi

Aditya Institute of Management Studies and Research (AIMSR) organized an enriching industrial visit to DTDC Express Ltd’s Strategic Central Sorting (SCS) facility in Bhiwandi, aimed at providing students with practical exposure to logistics, operations, HR, and finance functions in a real-world setting.
Objective of the Visit
The visit was designed to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry practices, allowing students to observe and understand the operational intricacies of a leading logistics company.
Key Learning Areas
1. Logistics & Operations
Students explored the complete logistics cycle — First Mile, Second Mile, and Last Mile — and gained insights into DTDC’s service offerings including Express, Surface, and Premium delivery models. The visit highlighted how each service is tailored to meet specific customer needs based on speed and cost.
2. Technology Integration
The facility demonstrated the use of barcode scanning, automated sorting systems, and real-time tracking, showcasing how technology ensures speed, accuracy, and transparency in parcel movement.
3. Human Resource Management
Students learned about HR practices in a high-volume logistics environment, including workforce planning, shift management, and employee safety protocols. The visit emphasized the role of HR in maintaining operational efficiency and employee well-being.
4. Financial Insights
The visit provided exposure to financial decision-making in logistics, particularly the cost dynamics of LTL (Less Than Truckload) vs FTL (Full Truckload) shipments, infrastructure investments, and budgeting for technology upgrades.
Student Engagement
Students actively participated in discussions, asked insightful questions, and interacted with DTDC professionals. The visit enabled them to connect theoretical concepts with practical applications, enhancing their understanding of cross-functional business operations.
