Functions of the Governing Body

The UGC Regulations (2023) outline the Governing Body’s functions and responsibilities. These functions are subject to the existing provision in the byelaws of the autonomous college and rules laid down by the State Government, and the Parent University.

  • Strategic and Academic Oversight. Provide overall direction for the autonomous college; approve new programmes of study (UG, PG, diploma, certificate); and ensure the college fulfils the objectives of autonomy.
  • Financial Governance. Approve the annual budget of the autonomous college. Oversee financial planning and resource allocation.
  • Human Resource Governance. Approve recruitment of teaching faculty and Director, in accordance with the policies laid down by the UGC and State Government.
  • Institutional Development. Create committees as needed for academic, administrative, or developmental purposes; and ensure compliance with UGC regulations and quality standards.
  • Accountability and Transparency. Ensure statutory bodies function effectively; and oversee adherence to regulatory requirements, including disclosures on the website.
  • Residual Functions. Perform such other functions and institute committees as may be necessary and deemed fit for the proper development of the autonomous college.

In essence, the Governing Body provides leadership, oversight, and policy guidance, ensuring that the college remains academically strong, financially sound, and administratively compliant.
